October 6, 2006, Newsletter Issue #14: Men Experience Mid-Life Hormonal Changes Similar to Women

Tip of the Week

It's a common misconception that mid-life hormonal changes are reserved for women. Researchers are discovering that not only do women suffer menopause, men can experience something called andropause. This is marked by a slow decline in the male hormone testosterone, which can cause a decline in sexual interest, an increase in body fat, and similarly to women, bone loss resulting in osteoporosis.

Because these and other changes can affect male quality of life, testosterone replacement therapy is becoming a common solution. Men who have tried testosterone supplements often report having more energy, a renewed sexual interest and a healthier overall outlook.
